ABOUT THE TECHNOLOGY

Banana leaves have been traditionally used for cooking, wrapping, and serving food in a wide range of cuisines in tropical and subtropical areas. Banana leaf is advantageous because of its biodegradability, environmental friendliness, sustainability, cancer prevention, and medicinal properties. The product is an herbal tea bag. The herbal tea bag is prepared using the leaf of the banana plant.

SALIENT FEATURES

• Tea bags made using banana leaves are easily biodegradable, environment-friendly, and sustainable besides having medicinal properties and therefore are a commercially profitable and sustainable option for brewing healthy tea.

 

• The farming community will also be motivated and benefit economically on account of increased business activity in banana plant cultivation.

 

• The economics of banana cultivation and the beverage industry are bound to improve with the adoption of tea bags made of banana leaves on a large scale in addition to the creation of new supply chains.

 

• The banana leaf being directly discarded as agricultural waste can be limited to some extent.

APPLICATIONS

All long-leaf tea manufacturers will be interested in exploring this proposal for commercial purposes.
